The Honest Woodcutter and the Magical Honeycomb
It is a story of old times, there lived a poor woodcutter in a village, whose name was Rahmat. He was very honest and hardworking. Every day he would go to the forest early in the morning, cut wood, and in the evening sell it in the market to bring bread for his children.
One day, a very strong storm came in the forest. Rahmat hid under a big tree. When the storm ended, he saw that on the same tree there was a very large honeycomb, from which all the honey was dripping onto the ground and gold was shining inside the trunk of the tree.
Rahmat was astonished. He thought in his heart that if I take all this honey and gold, my poverty will end. But then the thought of honesty came into his heart. He thought that this is the treasure of the forest, it is not mine.
In the meantime, a voice came from that tree. It was the guardian Jinn of the forest. The Jinn said, "O human, I have seen your heart. Greed did not come into your heart. You could have taken all the gold if you wanted, but you showed honesty."
The Jinn became happy and said, "Therefore I give you a reward. This honeycomb is magical. The honey from it will never end. You should take out a little honey every day and sell it, but never become greedy and take out all the honey at once, otherwise it will disappear."
Rahmat thanked the Jinn and happily took a little honey and came home. Now he would sell a little honey every day and his living became very good. His children were also happy and he also started helping the poor.
After a few days, a greedy landlord of the village found out about this secret. He went to the forest in the darkness of night and thought that I will take all the honey and gold at once. As soon as he greedily broke the whole honeycomb, all the gold turned into dust and the honey bees stung him and chased him away.
In the morning when Rahmat went to the forest, the magical honeycomb was just as it was, because he had never been greedy.
The moral of this story is that honesty is the greatest wealth and greed always has a bad ending. Real peace lies in hard work and contentment.
